REH3design Launches Free Stock Photo Resource TextureKing.com
In my formative days as a fledgling designer, I benefited greatly from the design community — visiting forums, battling other designs in Photoshop tennis and more. I’ve always wanted to do something to give back to that community. In the past REH3design did maintain a simple free stock site, but it had become cumbersome to maintain and was ultimately merged with the fine folks at StockVault (www.stockvault.net).
Today marks a rebirth of that project, Texture King, complete with a new focus on a specific genre of stock photos: high quality textures. The images found on the site are free for commercial and personal use. Please review the terms of use and FAQs for more details. I’m hoping that the narrowed focus on the photo subject will help make it easier to maintain and more enjoyable to boot.
From a technical standpoint, the site is powered by what is quickly becoming my favorite development tool, WordPress. The CSS behind the site is pretty basic and employs only a couple of filters to take care of some positioning issues in Internet Explorer. At the time of this writing, both the XHTML and CSS across the site validated (with the exception of the ads). The layout of the site was kept simple for ease of viewing and downloading the stock photos.
So, visit Texture King, take a look at the stock textures and enjoy.
